ELLE FUT JETÉE À LA FOSSE PUBLIQUE
(...)⠀⠀SA TOMBE RESSEMBLA À SON LIT.

she was born at m. sur m. of what parents? who can say? she had never known a father or mother. she was called fantine. why fantine? she had never borne any other name.

this is a private and highly selective writing blog for fantine of victor hugo's les misérables, based on the novel and headcanons with inspiration taken from the musical and other adaptations. originally established in february 2022. i am not affiliated with alain boublil, claude-michel schönberg, or ruthie henshall, and i am certainly not affiliated with victor hugo. (despite my love for the musical, i am very critical of it and i'm not afraid to let it be known). as written by anya — she/her, vietnamese jewish lesbian, and lover of all things ruthie henshall. this is my first time writing fantine, though i've been in the les mis rpc, primarily as cosette, since 2019.this blog is going to be kept private and extremely selective, prioritizing friends and mututals on other blogs. on that note, i only write with mutuals, and i am aiming to keep my following small; i will not follow everyone back. while i do reblog my fair share of memes, this blog thrives off plotted threads and dynamics. at the moment, seeing as i give out my discord sparingly and primarily to friends only, the best way to reach me for plotting is through ims. the only thing i ask is that you softblock if you intend on unfollowing, i will do the same. if i do softblock you, please do not refollow or ask why; it will most likely result in a hardblock.at the moment, this blog ranges from medium to low activity. it is, by all means, not my main priority this is a hobby, after all, and my activity will most likely drop in the following weeks to come. while i am a blog hopper (unfortunately), fantine is my primary blog and i will be here more times than not, whether writing or otherwise. i consider fantine's blog to be a little space for my mutuals and i, and i may post a cluster of ooc content at a time. if this is not your thing, i suggest you stay clear of my blog.it goes without saying that i do not condone bigotry of any kind, nor do i condone writing topics such as incest, pedophilia, or rape. it's 2022, it's not that hard to not be a weirdo. if your blog exhibits any of these actions, i will promptly hardblock. don't use problematic faceclaims, etc.as of late, i've been cutting down on my formatting, though i do still format quite a bit — small text, colored text, messletters fonts, etc. if there is anything that i need to adjust formatting wise, don't be afraid to let me know prior to interacting! feel free to edit it in replies, as well.

on fantine duplicates: hi fellow fantine writers! i'm glad you love fantine as much as i do. :-) i will not follow other fantine writers 99% of the time unless i know you well and i trust you. it's nothing against you! it's just for both of our own sakes that i stay in my own bubble. please do not follow or try to interact with me ooc. you're welcome to follow on any other blogs you have, though! faceclaim duplicates (specifically for ruthie henshall) please don't follow, either, as i heavily associate ruthie's fantine with my portrayal. thank you. :-)regarding dynamics: i absolutely adore establishing long-lasting dynamics! if you have an idea in mind, don't be afraid to im me about it. i do practice mains and exclusivity, but even then i typically don't follow more than one portrayal of a muse. if we have an established/planned dynamic, i will only interact with your portrayal just for my own sake, though i don't expect the same courtesy to be returned. see my full list of mains/exclusives here.given the nature of fantine's character arc/story, shipping is not my main priority. while i am not against it, don't expect to see it here a lot. i only ship with friends, just for my own comfort, and i mainly rely on chemistry to see where it takes us.i do not feel comfortable writing nsfw or smut for fantine, given the nature of her story and her circumstances. with this being said, i will not write any threads where fantine is a prostitute prior to the bamatabois incident. as for other general triggers and sensitive topics discussed, major ones include prostitution, abandonment trauma, child abandonment, illness, unhealthy relationships, and many more, i will always tag them as "trigger /". as for myself, please tag any mentions of lesbophobia, antisemitism, and anti-asian racism.

QU'EST-CE QUE C'EST QUE
CETTE HISTOIRE DE FANTINE?

there was a time when men were kind, when their voices were soft, and their words inviting... there was a time when love was blind, and the world was a song, and the song was exciting. there was a time (...) then it all went wrong.

NAME. fantine; from her years in paris and onward, she uses the name 'fantine laurent.'⠀⠀⠀⠀etymology: from the word "enfantin(e)," meaning childlike or childish. the name was given to her by a passerby as a toddler, and she's taken it as her own. she knows no other name.

ALIASES. little fantine, the blonde, fantine laurent.DATE OF BIRTH. 12 september, 1796. / 26 fructidor, year IV (french repubican calendar; in effect until 1805).PLACE OF BIRTH. montreuil-sur-mer, france.DATE OF DEATH. 24 february, 1823 (aged 26).CAUSE OF DEATH. shock; heart failure, complications from consumption.GENDER. cis female, she/her.

SPECIES. human.ORIENTATION. bisexual, biromantic (no preference. she develops affections quite easily; hopeless romantic. however, her attraction toward women is heavily repressed given the time period)NATIONALITY. french.ETHNICITY. caucasian, of unknown origin.RELIGION. roman catholic, incredibly devout.OCCUPATION. factory worker (1818 - 1819), seamstress (1819 - 1821), prostitute (1821 - 1822).ECONOMIC CLASS. lower/working class, though she was well off prior to her dismissal from her factory job. the thénardier's extortion of her has not helped in the slightest.

FACECLAIM. jane seymour & ruthie henshall (alt: pia douwes. other stage actresses are used for aesthetic purposes only).APPEARANCE. overall, she is a small woman, only around 5'3" (160 cm) in height. she appears gaunt, almost malnourished by the end of her life, though she was always incredibly lanky and bony. a heart shaped face, her expression always looks incredibly sullen, yet pensive, even when she smiles. she has exceptionally fine teeth, two of which are extracted for two napoleons (forty francs). she sends the money to montfermeil under the guise of it being for medicine for her daughter. despite her declining health, she is still pretty.HAIR. blonde, her defining and most predominant feature, usually accompanied by small waves and curls. her hair is her last remaining pride and joy present in her life, carefully styled and cared for. prior to selling it in order to earn money for cosette, it fell to her knees.EYES. strikingly dark brown in color. large "doe eyes," though they make her face appear gaunter.COMPLEXION incredibly pale, easily prone to bruising, with little to no color especially in winter, though she has freckles scattered across her face. as she grows older and further descends into her desperation, it gives an eerie, almost undead quality to her.POSTURE & GAIT. well poised, especially for someone of her background, though she has a habit of slouching when sitting and, for lack of a better word, folding into herself. along with this, fantine does tend to be incredibly stiff in her mannerisms.PHYSICAL HEALTH. ranging from average to terrible when she develops consumption in the year leading to her death. during her years in paris and her first year back in montreuil-sur-mer, she was in good health and well fed, though following her dismissal from her factory job, she becomes incredibly ill and sickly, losing any good health she may have left. other than that, fantine does not have any noticeable health conditions, save for her anemia.DOMINANT HAND. left handed.

FAMILIAL RELATIONS. her parents are unknown even to her; she grew up an orphan on the streets. however, the farmer luc laurent becomes a parental figure prior to her journey to paris. by the time she returns to montreuil-sur-mer, she considers him to be her only family.ROMANTIC RELATIONS. félix tholomyès; nine years her senior and her first love, fantine fell in love with tholomyès a year following her arrival in paris, alongside three other women; favourite, dahlia, and zéphine. prior to him abandoning fantine, she gave birth to his illegitimate daughter, euphraise.CHILDREN, euphraise, later called cosette fauchelevent. she left her daughter with the innkeepers luc and joséphine thénardier, where they exploited fantine for money whilst they mistreated cosette. fantine's fall is all in the name of cosette's survival.

POSITIVE TRAITS. altruistic, compassionate, prudent, ambitious (can depend), stubborn (can depend), devoted, loyalNEGATIVE TRAITS. idealistic, naïve (incredibly so), cynical, slightly jaded, gullibleVIRTURES. prudence, kindnessVICES. wrath/angerINTELLIGENCE. she's incredibly street smart, having spent her early childhood as an urchin on the streets. mentally, her intelligence is unknown, as she is unable to foster her potential due to her lack of schooling. taught basic literacy skills by tholomyès, but they are incredibly poor; though she can read, she is unable to write.

PERSONALITY. fantine was courteous, yet reckless and carefree as a child, having been left to wander the streets. she came to paris with her heart worn on her sleeve, an ambition clenched in her fist. however, tholomyès' abandonment was the first kick in the bucket, and her exploitation at the hand of the thénardiers was no better. she grew bitter by the day, and became far more jaded as she was forced to sell her pride and joys. following her rescue by jean valjean — then going by monsieur madeleine — she appears to return to a more gentle, courteous demeanor, though she still remains quite bitter and somewhat paranoid, eventually succumbing to her illness as javert confronts the man once known as monsieur le maire.MENTAL HEALTH. it... fluctuates, to say the least. during her childhood and adolescence she was alright, the only thing of note being her high stress and anxiety. following tholomyès' abandonment, it begins to decrease significantly. her self perception was always relatively bad, and as the thénardiers ask for more and more money, it only descends farther from there, especially once she endures the brutal conditions that prostitution brings.MORAL ALIGNMENT. chaotic good —— a chaotic good character acts as their conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of them. they makes their own way, but he's kind and benevolent. they believe in goodness and right but have little use for laws and regulations. they hate it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. they follow their own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society.MBTI. ISFP-T, the turbulent adventurer —— adventurers live in a colorful, sensual world, inspired by connections with people and ideas. these personalities take joy in reinterpreting these connections, reinventing and experimenting with both themselves and new perspectives. no other type explores and experiments in this way more. this creates a sense of spontaneity, making adventurers seem unpredictable, even to their close friends and loved ones.ENNEAGRAM. 9w1, the negotiator —— accepting, trusting, and stable. they are usually creative, optimistic, and supportive, but can also be too willing to go along with others to keep the peace. they want everything to go smoothly and be without conflict, but they can also tend to be complacent, simplifying problems and minimizing anything upsetting. they typically have problems with inertia and stubbornness.TEMPERAMENT. phlegmatic - melancholic

CHARACTER TROPES. the ingénue, broken bird, cosmic plaything, butt-monkey, born unlucky, doom magnet, eternally pearly-white teeth, hair of gold, heart of gold, tragic hero, aimlessly seeking happiness, wide-eyed idealist, mama bear, despair event horizon, yank the dog's chain, too good for this sinful earth, caged bird metaphor, determinator

CHARACTER INSPIRATION. laura palmer —— twin peaks, eleanor (crain) vance —— the haunting of hill house (novel + show), the grimm brothers' rumpelstiltskin, eurydice —— greek myth + hadestown & eurydice by sarah ruhl, sophocles' electra.

ET SANS DOUTE SA MÈRE, HÉLAS!
